Someone posted this on the other forum, but no many experts are weighing in.

Model number: 1603
Serial number: 265114

Using QualityTyme's serial number list it seems this watch is from 1956-1957. However, I thought prior to 1957, DJ were only available in gold. I was also under the impression that 1603 meant that the watch was SS and had an engine turned bezel. Anyway, this is the second watch like this that I have come across in as many weeks and I'm just curious. Any information you could would be great.

Hey All!

First let me say....AWESOME FORUM! All the posts I've read thus far have been very insightful and "trash talk free" (which is kinda hard to come by these days) I am a member of Porsche and Mercedes forums and the class of members is a step above on TKF!

Ok so here is the dilemma... I almost unloaded my 16700 Pepsi GMT (Oysterlock Bracelet) because I had this feeling that I was getting bored with it. My thoughts were:

1. Sell it and get a nice Triathlon Bike (I know its blaspheme...but I am impulsive as all get out and I went through a two week period where I was convinced this was the way to go.....it passed!

or

2. Sell it and look for a similar vintage Sub.

Since option 1 is out and option 2 could potentially loose me money, I finally came to my senses and came up with another option...

I think it is the bezel that is getting old for me. It's classic I know but I have owned the watch for over 10 years and I find myself wearing it less and less. I was thinking about sending it back to the RSC for a service (which it is due for) and having them put the black bezel on it. My question is this:

If I have them put the black bezel on it and make sure they send the Pepsi back to me, is this something that is easily changed back? Or am I stuck with the black until the next service?

Sorry I probably sound like a loon, but just reaching out for suggestions.

Also, I had the watch at the RSC in 2005. Does anyone know what the new service fees are for this watch? (I know it is a la cart for needed items)

Thanks all!

Zach

The Rolex that started it all for me:

I had been noticing for quite some time that the serious coin collectors that I tend to deal with also happen to be Rolex owners for the most part. At this point, I knew absolutely nothing about Rolex except that they 'probably' cost a lot! I even thought they all had batteries... Even though I have always had a fascination with watches, it was always with those under $500.

It was sometime in 2006, I was called to an estate lawyer's office to look at some coins as I normally do. The client showed me a bunch of wrist and pocket watches and asked me if I'd like to buy them to close out the estate. One of the watches was this 1967 18kt gold Rolex Cellini. I really had no idea what it was worth, but based on its age I offered $500 for it. Little did I know that this was actually a reasonable price for it.

I fully intended to 'flip' it, as I was a coin person, not a watch person. Here was my mistake: I thought it would be fun to wear it for a while:banghead:.

Well, as you might imagine, wearing it for a few days, turned into a few weeks. It grew on me. I started internet searches to find out all I could about it and Rolex in general.
I was drawn to the horological history of mechanic watches and the Rolex brand specifically:worship:. I was amazed at how something entirely mechanical that used technology well over 200 years old could keep such accurate time. The ability for me to pop open the case back and watch the balance wheel was mesmerizing. I studied it, and with each passing day, I knew I had to have a brand new Rolex:drool:.

My name is Chris, and I'm a junkie - a Rolex junkie. Please DON'T help me - I like it!:mixed:

Well with all this talk of Cream Explorer II's I thought I'd resurrect some pictures.
Here are a few pics of my Cream 16570 non rail dial Cream.
It is the most unloved variant of the Cream Explorer II as many people originally thought they had all been tampered with.
This has now been put to bed, but the suspicion still remains in some quarters, which is why the rail dial 16550 is still regarded as ''THE'' Cream Explorer II.
I however love it, I think the Black plots really bring out the cream.
It was purchased from a very reputable collector/dealer and I personally had it serviced by Rolex Bexley.
and with it's older siblings

Chap I work with brought in his Grandfathers rolex for the team to view today.
It looked like a bit like an Explorer , but I am not sure of the model. It dates from 1952 and has a non original (well to my eye) elasticated two tone strap (US maker).
The case is two tone also . I am taking my book to work tomorrow to see if we can work out what it is . We counted five rolex watches in our canteen today, the one mentioned, a 20 yr old Datejust which has had a very hard life but still runs like a dream, my Sub ', My buddies new Sub ( He has had it a month, replacing his old Tag, and he intends to wear it daily) and we spotted another back dial Explorer 2 on the wrist of a visitor.
A good day at work.

The owner promised me to bring the box with ALL accessories this Saturday (Sept. 4th., 2010), so I brought my camera... :beardjump:

The guy has had the bracelet exchanged two times (both bracelets are from a Submariner, btw.), and also had had the bezel plus bezel inserts exchanged 4 times and has kept the old bezel inserts plus the bezel! :worship:

I've edited out the serial number for safety!

Enjoy this RARELY seen complete box set :worship: :worship:
