    Hi All,

New to the site and have a couple of questions:

I'm going to be in Florence in a couple of weeks and thought I would stop by the Panerai shop in Florence to buy my first Panerai.

    - Has anyone been to the shop in Florence and have any advice for a potential purchase?

    - I'm having a hard time choosing between the 104 and 312 or is there a different model that you guys would recommend for a first panerai?

    - Any thoughts or comments on choosing betwen one of the automatic panerai listed above or one with a hand-wound movement like the 177?

    Thanks in advance!!

    Welcome to TKF!

Can't say I've ever been to Florence, so can't help you on that one, but I can recommend the PAM 312 since I had that watch for a while... very well-made and beautiful watch indeed!

As for whether to choose an automatic or manually wound watch, imho it's up to one's personal taste and preference. Some here swear to the manually wound Panerai's since the movements are bulletproof ETA movts. tested by time... but personally I just prefer automatic watches and was impressed with the inhouse calibre in the PAM 312.

    Welcome to TKF,

The difference between the 312 and the 104 are multiples!!!

The 312 have the 1950 case much ticker then the 104, if you like big watches, you will like this one
The 312 have also the in-house Panerai movement, witch is more prestigeous than the ETA movement, and also have the power reserve indicator in the back.
The 312 have a 3 days power reserve.
The 312 have no magnifyer on the date, the Panerai purists prefer this!
The 312 have the seconds hand next to the 9, the 104 have no 9 but the second hand instead so you are loosing one digit on the 104.
The hands are also silver on the 312...they are black on the 104.
The ETA movement on the 104 is proven to be sturdy, and efficient, the 312...we are not sure yet, some are very pleased, some had problems in the past!

I personnaly prefere the 312, but for one major reason...I dont like the magnifyer for the date on the Panerai's!

One of my favorite is the 111, for its genuine aspect! The date is realy not a must on a Panerai!

IMHO the 177 will be you best choice for your 1rst one!

But this is only my opinion!

As a first Panerai I would look at the 111, but you wont go wrong with any you choose, the 312 would also be a superb choice.

A very warm welcome to TKF, be sure to let us know what you decide upon and post some photos when you get a spare moment.

You will not go wrong with the 312. Best value for money Pam! I used to have one but sold it to make way for the 351.

What are the major differences between the 312 and the 351 beside the titanium?

I for one would have a manual wind model.
It is more in line with the historic heritage of Panerai and like Bo said, the Unitas 6497 is a bulletproof movement.

    Hi all,

Thanks for the input. I got to floreNce just as the paneRai shop reopened after a small renovation. After looking at the various models and strap choices, I settled on the 111. It is awesome!!!

My iPad won't let me post pictures so I will post some of the watch and of the store once I get home. I have also discovered the straps, they are vey addictive!!

Congratulations! The 111 is one real historical Panerai iconic watch...get some vintage bands...and have fun...you will get a different watch every time!

Good choice! ....and please post pictures!
