I felt the same way. Until now, I didn't really there was a Bond that could match the standards of Sean Connery. You are right, the script is excellent. While I wouldn't judge the characters' acting capabilities on a Bond movie, I really do think they got the entire cast just right in this one.

    Cheers

I have to agree. Connery will always remain the original celluloid Bond, and he was so damned good...he'll probably always be my sentimental favorite.

But I honestly think the quality of the scripts and overall production for Craig's films have been simply amazing (although Quantum of Solace wasn't as good as either Casino Royale or Skyfall, IMHO). Looking at some of the older Bond films today I can't help but notice the parts that are dated and chintzy.

Craig's interpretation of Bond is fresh and modern and his own, but of course harkens back to the original Fleming "hard edge" of the novels and Craig's own personal favorite Bond, Sean Connery. I'm not saying anything here a hundred critics haven't said in so many words before, but I happen to agree with this train of thought on the franchise. I think Craig is the best thing to happen to Bond since Connery (and maybe since the death of Fleming in 1964). After all, '64 also saw the release of the last arguably great Connery Bond film - Goldfinger. Just something to chew on.

By the way, I'm currently reading the Ian Fleming novel, From Russia With Love. It's classic old school Bond, and quite good, although I think a lot of people today would find it a bit old-fashioned in pacing, style, etc. I'm thoroughly enjoying it. (Interestingly, JFK put the book on his list of all-time ten favorite books in an interview in 1961 and sales of Fleming Bond novels skyrocketed.)

Saw it last weekend, and after considering things over at length I have also come to the conclusion Skyfall was the best Bond movie yet. Plenty of new, plenty of nods to classic Bond, and tons of what Q once asked Connery for: gratuitous sex and violence.

I avoided all spoilers and saw it cold, no intel accepted. When that garage door opened and the DB5 was there, I about shouted with delight. Amazing moment. Brilliant throughout.

Of all the great cars in the world, that DB5 is my first choice....TV's Batmobile is second...:rocker:

Finally saw Skyfall today. I thought it was one of the better Bond films. Javier Bardem's role was creepy. Kinda reminds me of his other movie, "No Country for Old Men".

Sony just sent me an Xperia TL phone like the one used in Skyfall.
It even comes with Skyfall/Bond wallpaper and ring tones.
