I'm in the market for a Panerai and so far I got one offer for trading with my Ceramic GMT Master II. So basically, I'm doing what Jeff did a while back. :) Can you guys please tell me what you think of this specific model and whether or not I'm doing the right thing. I love my GMT but I want a Panerai so bad and I want my Rolex to be a Sub. So after this move, I will be shopping for a Submariner. Untill then, please tell me what you think of the pics below. I want the 164.

    Looking good!

I'd still personally prefer the PAM 212 you showed in your other thread, though.

To ad: What I actually DO like about the PAM 164 are:

    • The matte case with polished bezel. It gives a nice play of light and makes for a more user friendly watch for everyday use (no grime on the case sides since they're matte finished).
    • The easy strap exchange system
    • The deployant buckle (like the one Jeff bought)
    • The non see-through caseback. I tend to prefer those.

What I don't care for too much are:

    • The cyclops
    • The non night-glowing 1,2, 4, 5 etc. Imho, the contrast in colour between the bright white and PRINTED numbers and the SL applied ones that have a yellow-ish hue to them looks a bit odd.

Imho, the watch would be PERFECT if it had a more domed crystal, lost the cyclops and the non-glowing numbers AND had a "sandwich" dial!

x2 - I also think the cyclops looks out of place on the PAM. I also don't care for the dots on the dial outside the hour markers. Other than that, I think it's a great looking watch.

The 164 is a great looking PAM IMHO. For some reason it's less sought after compared to the other models... I'm not sure why. I wore a 164 for 3 months and really enjoyed it.

Good watch, but the complaint I have is the constant "Speck" in the date window caused by light reflection on the inversed Panerai date Cylcops. Very annoying. Prefer Panerais with either no date, or a date with no clyclops (ex: 233 or 250 models)
