I'm no expert by any means, however I believe your were prying the crystal ring instead of the bezel ring. The bezel ring SNAPS off with a very small amount of pressure. It's not something that you'd have to apply pressure to multiple sides to remove. I believe you were slowly prying up the crystal ring as you worked the blade around all 4 corners.

I do not believe that is the case Jeff. You see, I had to remove the bezel ring twice because the first time I placed the bezel insert the 12 o'clock triangle on the insert was not aligning with the 12 o'clock triangle on the dial. I was prying with very little pressure both times, and to my surprise the entire assembly came undone the second time. As Rik had stated, it take quite a bit of force to remove the crystal ring. I had examined the bezel ring and crystal ring carefully, and thankfully both rings were not warped. I do, however, suspect that using a thin blade is definitely NOT a recommended tool since it could potentially damage the o-ring/gasket.

I think you misunderstood me the tool I use is for the crystal bezel only not the rotating bezel. A properly positioned case knife should pop the bezel off nicely. I have seen tight rotating bezels and loose fitting bezels they are not all the same tension the more you rotate them the more they wear metal on metal. I have had many come in that just one fingernail could pop them off time to replace. Nuff said Rik

I was also refering to the crystal ring, not the bezel ring. Popping off with fingernails, now that is indeed scary ...

Reporting back that all is well again with my GMT-II as Giovanni from RSC SFO had confirmed that there were no damages and had sucessfully re-installed the crystal / crystal ring & gasket / bezel ring, insert & spring for minimal fee. And yes, he also pressure tested after the work. I am happy again and almost forgot how much I enjoy this model!

Well.......the moral to this story for me is

    "Don't mess with a Rolex!"

I've been tempted a few times to remove a bezel for cleaning but after reading this horror story I think I'll leave it to the experts.
    Take care
    Pete
