It's a No for me but that's due to my personal dislike of all leather straps that have that accordion looking area that allows for stretching. If it wasn't for that... It would be better in my eyes. IMHO, Panerai is meant to be on a nice leather strap.
I have seen them... but I just cannot connect to it. Wish I could! It's also why I never bought a rubber strap for my Seiko monster.
I like it. The accordion straps are an acquired taste for sure. I have one on my Helson and I didn't like it at first, but then I realized it allows for more airflow in the summer and my wrist wasn't sweating under the rubber strap. It grew on me and I love it now. :love:
The rubber strap is sometimes necessary, when playing golf or at the beach for example. I agree that leather looks better and in fact, I have a Heroic 18 in black leather en route. Just nice to change it up a bit. The leather gives it a richer look I think. The 422 comes with the original style rubber strap (non-accordian) but I needed a longer strap and so they gave me this which is supposedly superior. The rubber OEM with my 88 was the older style and it always felt flimsy for the weight of the watch. This one does not and the 422 is even heavier. Living in the Florida heat I guess it's good to have as a backup. I miss the quick strap change system. The screws are a bit longer of a process and you have to be very careful not to scratch the watch or strip the threads.
I agree with the need for a rubber strap. My Breitling Aerospace spends most of the time on a factory leather strap but I also had to have the OEM rubber for days when I expect water or sweating. :thumbsup:
