Hi- i recently obtained a 1969 Cotton Bowl rolex datejust and am trying to find out it's value. If anyone can give me some guidance I'd greatly appreciate it. I may be selling it and would like to know what it's worth in advance. I've attached some pics. Regards, Jay.

Welcome to the forum! That is a nice watch you have there! I am not too sure of it's value but some members here will soon be able to tell you

    Welcome to TKF!

I really don't have an accurate estimate for you, but we have had one of these for sale here on TKF before. The seller had it listed for $3100. The same watch was later advertised on Timezone.com for $2700. I don't know what the watch actually sold for though. That'll give you a good idea, though. I hope that helps.

The custom dial DJ's are a VERY hard sell unless you find
someone whose a big fan of the cotton bowl (in this case)

I have seen these sit at $1200 with papers and all.

The Domino Pizza Air Kings are going for about $1300 IF you can
prove it was not just a dial swap done after the fact.

It's all original. Got it directly from the original owner (a relative of mine) whose name is engraved on the back of the case. Again, thanks for the info.

I agree with Jeremy - that'll be a hard sell if you do decide to sell it.

Welcome to TKF. Great looking Rolex. As a huge college football fan, I like the dial.

When you try to sell it, focus on the Texas area since the University of Texas beat the University of Tennessee 36-13 in the 1969 Cotton Bowl. Might help. Good luck.

Hi- thanks for info. Actually, the 1969 Cotton Bowl was between Texas and Notre Dame according to my uncle who was awarded the watch. The 1969 Cotton Bowl was played on January 1, 1970 but it's considered the 1969 game. I double checked this on the internet for whatever it's worth.

Jay, another idea for you... some out of the box thinking here...

Buy a second genuine dial. You can probably pick one up for around $100. Have it installed for around $50. Then you can offer the watch with a MUCH more desireable dial. You can also include the Cotton Bowl dial along with the sale. This could open the door to MANY more interested buyers. You'll probably even be able to make up the $150 you spend on the dial and installation. Again, just some creative and out of the box thinking.

    Welcome to TKF!

I like Jeff's idea of getting another dial for your DJ, but it would have to be a period and style (note the facetted markers and the facet along the dial) Tritium dial...it could take you a while to find the right type of dial, and I'm not sure it would really be worth it in the end.

Personally, I'd think out of the box and just KEEP the watch.. you'd have a pretty unique Rolex that you don't see on every street corner like a conventional DJ.

I don't think I'd change the dial. I may end up keeping the watch and am a big football fan. plus i'd like to keep it original.

Hi Longhorn and welcome to TKF.

This is a very old thread and I suggest you contact the original poster for the thread via the Private Message function - that way they may get e-mail notification of the PM and know that someone is trying to contract them. Good luck.
