It is far too simple to throw every diet that is low in carbohydrates into the same category. There are too many variables.You also have to remember that what works for one person will not work for another, we are all different. Having said that there are some protocol's that will help tremendously in making a low carb diet work.

    Firstly, the type of carbohydrate. You could be eating a diet with 20% carbs in it (which isn't too low) but you could be eating all of the carbs from high gi sources such as refined grains, potatoes, ice cream etc. These cause a much different hormonal response than say fruits, vegetables, and beans. This is important, because if insulin is high then you aren't going to be burning fat.
