Tongue in Cheek - Omega's Meat and Two Veg

, Jul 23, 2014
This is purely tongue in cheek and something I have only just noticed. I believe it needed to be pointed out, though you may hate me once you read this... You may never be able to un-see it ever again!

Baselworld 2014 was quite a coup for Omega this year, the stand-out models were the Seamaster 300 Master Co-Axial, the Dark Side of the Moon 'Lunar Dust' and last but not least the Speedmaster Apollo 11 45th Edition. The latter two form the subject of this article, but do not be fooled. There are a few more models in the Omega range that also fulfil the criteria for this article.
Do not get me wrong I have a major want in my life for both the Lunar Dust and the 45th Edition as they are achingly cool.
Omega have done a true great job with the design and execution for the 45th Edition, I especially love the muted dial and bezel with small rose golf highlights. Not to mention the homage to the NATO straps actually used by the astronauts. Winner in my book! TEMPTED!
But wait, what is this I see at the 12 o'clock position?

Two little dots, an elongated hour marker... with another little bit of lume at the tip...

Oh my God!!! Meat and two veg! Childish I know...

Phallic, comedy, well done Omega. I am sure they have done this by complete accident but it is very hard to ignore once you see it for the first time. Is it enough to put me off having a Speedmaster? No! It will just bring a childish chuckle every time I look at it.
Do not forget this is not limited to just the 45th Anniversary and the Lunar Dust, it also extends to the original Dark Side of the Moon and almost all of the Speedmasters and it's derivatives.

Good luck trying to forget or not seeing it anymore! Until next time.
